06 April 2013.
So today we have a new resident our first official Maned Wolf. He is a very big boy and is our first resident at Tall Trees. We hope to get a mate for him. Facts about the Maned wolf: The maned wolf stands about three feet tall at the shoulder and weighs about 50 pounds. Its ears are large and long, its throat and tip of the tail are white, and its legs are mostly dark. Lives in central and southeastern Brazil, Paraguay, eastern Bolivia, and northern Argentina. Habitat destruction is the main threat to maned wolves. They have almost no natural enemies, but nevertheless are in great danger. In addition, people kill these wolves for their body parts, believed to have magical properties. So here is Duma:

08April 2013.Okay so today we have two new residents, A lovely maned wolf pup from a rescued female that was in quarantine for weeks to allow time to recover. We found Harley snared in a trap that was made of wire that tightens when trapped causing the blood to cut off and death by starvation. Poachers are continuously making the Maned wolfs life hard. Lucky we found her when we did. She gave birth a few days ago to the pup, but the others passed away from the premature birth. He has not been named yet but here are the mum & son. The Reason for being in a cage is so that Duma can look but not touch just so we know if they will get along.
